NINJA DAD
Dad, Malcolm, lives in Fottsey Motel in the sea-side town of Fottsey in North NSW. He is the manager/cleaner/owner of the 24-room building and his two kids, Jillia and Percy, and is a little down-trodden by his wife, Carly. The only outlet for Malcolm: be the man that he wants to be - Ninja dad.
Episode 1: The setting.
FADE IN:
EXT. FOTTSEY MOTEL. DAY.
The motel. Its “No Vacancy” sign flickers to “Vacancy”.
INT. FOTTSEY MOTEL RECEPTION. DAY.
A close up on an Employee of the Month poster. We zoom out to see a wall full of the same poster. 12 months’ worth. All of contain Malcolm’s image with the same bored look.
Quick zoom out further to reveal MALCOLM siting at the reception desk in identical pose. Resting head on hand, his eyelids droop and his head falls off his hand, smacking his chin into the desk. He wakes up a little bit, but goes back to the same pose.
As soon as we register that it’s an identical pose, we hear the sound of a fly buzzing around.
Without moving his expressionless face, his non-head-resting hand moves down below the desk to fish around for something. The fly buzzing gets louder.
He finds what he’s looking for, and is momentarily still, waiting for it.
SLAP! He has a go with a flyswatter at the fly. The sound stops for a moment.
The buzzing begins again.
SLAP! He has another go. The sound again stops for a moment.
The buzzing begins again.
SLAP SLAP SLAP! His hand moves quite quickly trying to get it. The sound again stops.
The buzzing begins again.
SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP! His hand is a blur, moving like E-Honda’s in Street Fighter. The sound of the fly continues throughout, though, and doesn’t end when he stops trying to slap.
